The production - The Traitors

A brief synopsis of the show for those of you who have been living under a rock: Contestants in the game move into the castle and work as a team to complete a series of challenging missions to earn money for the prize pot, the more missions they win, the bigger the prize pot.

However, amongst the players lie three contestants who are secretly traitors, they will attempt to deceive and manipulate their way to the prize by eliminating loyal contestants.

The Traitors will meet in secret and decide who to eliminate from their fellow players known as a ‘Faithful’. The aim of the Traitors is to stay undetected until the end of the game.

Whilst trying to avoid being eliminated, the Faithful’s must figure out who is a Traitor and vote them out so they can take the prize money for themselves. If a Traitor makes it to the end, they are in with a chance of taking home the cash prize.

Filming for both the U.K. and U.S. series, hosted by Claudia Winkelman & Scotland’s very own Alan Cumming respectively, took place at Ardross Castle which can be found around 25 miles north of the city of Inverness. This is where the contestants ate, slept, and socialised throughout the series, though challenges took place at different locations nearby. For example, the final challenge – involving a dramatic helicopter jump and a speed boat zipping across a vast loch – was filmed at Loch Glass, which is located approximately 30 minutes away from the castle.

The location - Ardross Castle

Ardross Castle is situated in a rural area, lying 30 miles north of the nearest city, Inverness. Built in the Scottish Baronial style, Ardross Castle is set within over 100 acres of parkland and was built in the 19th century, mainly by Irish immigrants to the area; as a result, the surrounding village is named Dublin. Previously a hunting lodge for the 1st Duke of Sutherland, Ardross Castle has been privately owned by the McTaggart family since 1983.

Our role - What we did

Gallowglass Event Crew from Glasgow, Manchester and London assisted in the build, loading, unloading of trucks, distribution of cables, filming equipment, props & supplying plant operators.

This particular project involved crew being up at the beautiful Ardross Castle for several months: we supplied a total of 32 crew for almost 4,500 hours across 76 days on site.

With the length of the project, we decided it prudent to utilise crew from our London, Manchester & Glasgow bases, spread the love as it were and to make sure the team weren’t away from their families for too long.

Some of the crew even appeared onscreen, albeit unrecognisable at times, as they were some of the sinister cloaked figures and assistants to the tasks seen throughout filming.
