What to Expect When Applying to Work for Us - textSectionComponent

As the leading event crew providers in the UK, we’re always on the hunt for fresh new faces to join our ever-expanding team. So, if you’re in search of an event crew job in the UK or abroad, in cities such as Barcelona, then we could have the perfect option for you.

Applying for jobs can often seem like a daunting process, so we’ve tried to make ours as simple as possible. Our latest guide will steer you through our application process to give you the confidence to take that first step.

Jobs at Gallowglass

Our crews undertake a wide variety of tasks every day. From basic crewing jobs to more specialist roles such as MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) and plant operators, banksmen, set builders, electricians, technical crew and plenty of others. Some of these jobs require previous experience; however, we’re always on the lookout for general crew, so if you are new to crewing you can still learn the basic essentials during your first few days of training. Although experience is certainly a bonus, it isn’t vital, and our fantastic progression opportunities could help you to follow your perfect career path in the events industry.

Choosing a region

For many, choosing a region can be as simple as checking out the opportunities where you are currently located. However, others may be looking to relocate without a specific destination in mind! Take a look at our ’Work for Us’ page, and you’ll be able to browse through the various locations where we operate to see if any of these appeal to you. Whether you’re looking for event crew jobs in Birmingham, London or Glasgow, we’ve got positions available all over the UK. Each location page offers a wealth of information on some of the biggest events we’ve worked on and other interesting details about the area.

At different times of the year we’ll advertise specific locations where we are most in need of additional crew; so keep an eye on our Facebook page for these posts!

Online Application

We keep our online applications open all year-round so that we can attract the best people to join our business. The online process is very simple, so once you’ve decided on a location, you can apply straight away. You’ll find the forms within the location pages under ’Work for Us’.  We’ll ask for fairly basic information, but it’s important you’re honest when answering the questions.

Aside from the 18 answer box questions, we also ask you to submit your CV as this gives us a chance to see if you have any other relevant experience and to learn a little bit more about you. It’s worth having a read of our post on ‘How to Make Your CV Stand Out’ as this will give you a better idea of the kind of qualities we’re looking for in a crewman (or woman!)

Interview process

Our initial interview process is quite informal; more of a friendly chat than a formal grilling. This is so that we can get to know what you are like as a person and to find out what kind of knowledge you have about the job and the industry. It’s also a good opportunity for you to meet some of the senior members of the Gallowglass team and to find out more about the business before getting started.

Induction

Assuming your initial interview goes well, you’ll be invited along for an induction, which typically lasts about a day. During this time, you’ll be made aware of the kind of work you’ll be doing, the hours involved and various aspects of health and safety that are critical to your job, as well as being shown the routine paperwork involved.

Next, you’ll take a practical test, including being shown how to lift a steel deck correctly, how to load a truck, stack flight cases, coil cables and assemble truss with lights and speakers safely. These are the kinds of tasks that you’ll be carrying out on a daily basis, so it’s important that you’re familiar and comfortable with doing so.

Once you’ve passed this section, you’ll be offered a job and given the appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) and your new uniform! Then you’ll be ready to get started as soon as a job comes up.

Your first job

Depending on your circumstances, you should find that your first job is within 24 to 48 hours of your initial job offer – the events industry never stands still! All the information you’ll need can be accessed through our MyCrew app, and you’ll also have a list of people to contact should you have any issues or questions.

You’ll never be sent out to a job that you've not been fully trained for, but you will be expected to get stuck straight into the work.
