Gallowglass furloughs its people - textSectionComponent

Outdoor events postponed, shows cancelled and the world is on lockdown in a joint effort to battle COVID-19. Now more than ever, our event crew need our support before our industry can get back to working order. Chairman, Paul Grecian talks about how Gallowglass are addressing it.

These are incredibly difficult times for all of us within the event sector and it is alarming to consider that some of the most talented, resourceful people within the global event community could be lost to the industry forever.

Gallowglass has spent over twenty years investing in our event crew and management to enable us to deliver world class events on an unprecedented scale. These people are true assets to the company and the industry.

Consequently, it is with considerable relief, that Gallowglass has been able to support almost three hundred crew and management through the government furlough scheme.

Eyebrows were raised and comments muttered when we asked everyone to go PAYE over a decade ago. A lot of those same people were very relieved yesterday when their pay arrived in their bank accounts.

London Senior Crew Chief, Matt Sargent commented “You’ve got to think about how dangerous the situation with Covid-19 is; shops are closed, people are social distancing and our industry has been one of the hardest hit areas as a result. We need to be around for our families and loved ones and the thought of not being able to work, having to find another job and earn some money has made it all the more scary! Thankfully, Gallowglass have been able to offer the governments furlough scheme to the crew, which has given me and a lot of others some safety and peace of mind that we can pay our bills and put food on the table.”

Crew Chief Bradley Howe says: “No one knows how long this lockdown is going to last for, everyone is in the same boat and we all need to look out for each other. To be furloughed at this time has provided much relief and comfort in the knowledge that we are not in this alone and that Gallowglass are doing all they can to support us.”
