Gallowglass have supplied trained and skilled manpower to conference and exhibition centres all over the UK and Europe. As events specialists with a workforce of over 600, our commitment to maximising people’s potential goes much further than ensuring that they have the minimum training skills. In fact, we are one of the only companies in the events industry to have an HR Director as part of our team, ensuring that the focus is on allowing each crew member to progress through behavioural development as well as building on their operational skillsets.

When working on an exhibition build, our event crew can sometimes be on the job for a longer period than for corporate or public events. This long-term scheduling can often make for an easier working environment, however, this doesn’t mean there are fewer time-restraints or less hard work to be done!

During the build process, the can-do attitude of our crew is focused on delivering an immaculate environment, making sure that everything is in full, working condition. Often, we supply crew to exhibitions where a functioning extension of their office is required, providing both an operations centre and a sales hub. Ensuring that this is up-and-running before the exhibition begins is essential.

For most of our crew working on exhibitions, the different environments, installations and technology, especially for shows being designed as an interactive playground for visitors, need to be finished to the highest standards. The attention to detail that our team pay to every centimetre of the stand is vital to its overall success and lifespan.

Over the past couple of years, we have provided specialist event crew on a wide mix of different exhibitions, including The Boat Show, Top Drawer, EIBTM, InCosmetics, and The Mobile World Congress, for which we have worked over 15,000 man hours.

Despite the long hours, helping build exhibitions has provided our event crew with some unique and unforgettable experiences In 2014, Gallowglass installed the Mammoths of the Ice Age exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland, working with exceedingly rare and irreplaceable objects. For the installation, the crew were required to handle fossil skulls, tusks and teeth, as well as life-size replicas of creatures such as a 40,000-year-old baby woolly mammoth. For jobs such as this, we allocate a larger number of crew members, to allow for the delicacy of the exhibits. On completion, the crew get a tremendous sense of achievement, knowing that their work was responsible for bringing the whole spectacle to life.

As the exhibition industry evolves, Gallowglass welcome technological advances, such as more interactive content and social media to throw the spotlight on the stands that we help install. With IT improvements such as logistics management systems and design programmes, we’re asked to build more ambitious environments year-on-year. It’s exciting to work in such a dynamic sector and every new project and event brings challenges and achievements that add to our crews knowledge banks and experience.
